Laura Joy Pieters is an actress, curator, and visual artist based between London and Whitstable. Her art practice uses moving image and performance to explore ideas of science and belief, Black futurism and utopia, and humankind’s collective relationship with the earth and space. She is currently developing a narrative feature film: a speculative petrofiction in which two young women become dangerously involved with the leader of a techno-futurist ideology.

She holds an MSci in Chemistry from UCL and works as Curator of Mathematical Sciences at the Science Museum, London, where she is responsible for the museum's historic collection of objects relating to astronomy, mathematics, and weighing and measuring. She is the lead curator of a major new gallery at the museum, due to open in 2027.
Previously, Laura was part of the inaugural group of Young Leaders at Science Gallery London where in 2019 she developed a short film ('Dark Matter') based on her heritage and her relationship with science. Within the programme she worked on several other creative collaborations including the interactive art piece ‘Common Thread’, designed with RESOLVE Collective and exhibited during the 'On Edge' season. In 2020, Laura was the recipient of CRATE Studio's digital artist residency, responding to Octavia E Butler's 'Parable' novels. In 2021, she was awarded a grant from Arts Council England to develop her creative practice.
